Ask about Your IT Safety NetThe useful middle ground
Not every organisation needs an IT department. But every organisation should have someone who knows where its important systems are, who has access to them, and what needs attention.
Your IT Safety Net provides light-touch, independent technical oversight and a named person to ask when a supplier raises a concern or something does not seem right. It is not a replacement for a managed IT provider; it is a clearer view of the things that matter and sensible advice about what to do next.
What you get
A practical record, periodic checks, and independent technical perspective.
A clear register of important IT services and suppliers, including domains, hosting, email and other critical accounts.
A record of who owns and administers each service, with attention to recovery options, current staff access and MFA.
Periodic checks for clear access, continuity and renewal risks—before an avoidable surprise makes them urgent.
A named technical contact for questions, supplier recommendations and sensible next-step guidance, plus an annual summary of risks and improvements.
The initial review
The onboarding review establishes the register and highlights practical priorities. It can also reveal work worth tackling separately.
| What the review might uncover | A possible follow-on project |
|---|---|
| A former employee still controls MFA | Account recovery and access restructuring |
| An obsolete PHP version supports an important website | Website modernisation |
| Backup arrangements and ownership are unclear | Backup implementation and restore testing |
| There is no central credential management | Password-manager rollout |
| Ownership of services is unclear or scattered | Supplier and account consolidation |
Any follow-on project is discussed and priced separately. The point of the review is to make priorities visible, not to create work for its own sake.
From concern to action
Your IT Safety Net is not a round-the-clock managed service. It gives you a clearer view of what matters, then helps you put proportionate arrangements in place where they are needed.
Where day-to-day operational responsibility belongs with you, an IT provider or another specialist, I can help make that responsibility visible and easier to manage.
I do not provide continuous security monitoring, but I can help select and configure sensible monitoring and alerts for your team or provider to receive.
I do not apply routine patches, but I can help establish a clear record and alerting process so that updates and renewals reach the people responsible.
I do not manage backups or guarantee recovery, but I can help set up a backup arrangement, clarify ownership and plan meaningful restore testing.
I do not offer emergency response or guaranteed availability, but I can help document useful contacts, access and escalation routes for when something urgent happens.
I cannot take responsibility for a supplier's failure, but I can help you understand their recommendation, ask useful questions and decide who should act.
This is not unlimited technical support or a substitute for a designated IT, security or data-protection role. When a larger need emerges, I can help define it and provide or arrange a separately scoped piece of work.
