An evolving suite of tools for a growing school environment.

Context

In the early 2000s, while working in a school environment, Neil developed interconnected internal web applications as organisational needs emerged. Over that time the environment grew from roughly 120 Windows NT/Windows 95 machines to more than 300 computers and around a dozen servers.

What was built

The applications covered room and equipment booking, asset management, stock tracking, IT support tickets, network management and remote-access tools.

What it demonstrates

The useful lesson is not that every problem required a new application. It is the working pattern: observe a genuine need, understand how people use the system, make an appropriate improvement, and let connected processes become less awkward over time.

Current experience

Reporting, data processing and systems people can use.

Current work includes survey, reporting and data-processing systems, including geographical visualisation and mapping functionality. The common thread is turning information and processes into something that can support a real decision or job.
